Dear Richcroft Supporters & Friends,

In this month of February, I want to take a moment to acknowledge and celebrate Black History Month. This month is not only a time to honor the achievements and contributions of African Americans throughout history, but also an opportunity for us to reflect on our values of inclusivity, diversity, and equity.

Richcroft is committed to creating an environment where everyone feels valued, respected, and included. As we celebrate Black History Month, let us also recognize the importance of diversity within our own organization and the communities we serve. It is through embracing our differences and learning from one another that we can truly make a positive impact in the lives of those we support.

Throughout this month, I encourage all of us to take the time to learn about the history and cultural heritage of African Americans, both past, and present. Let us amplify the voices of those who have been marginalized and continue to advocate for equality, love and justice for all.

 All my best,

Kevin

Speaking of Love…

Meet the wonderful Dr. Karyn Harvey!

Dr. Karyn Harvey and Richcroft’s own CEO, Kevin Drumheller, created an app that strives to reduce feelings of isolation and loneliness in people with Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities. The app is called

“Hello It’s Me!” and it is a safe place to learn, interact, connect and have fun! Dr. Harvey has worked in the field of disabilities for over 35 years, and has her Ph.D. in Applied Developmental Psychology from the University of Maryland. In her private practice, Dr. Harvey provides therapy for people with intellectual disabilities and is known throughout the country and state as an expert in trauma-informed support for both individuals and organizations. When asked why she was interested in working on the “Hello It’s Me!” app, Dr. Harvey replied that she has, “A great passion for fighting loneliness and creating more happiness for people with IDD and that she has always felt that relationships are a human right for all people.”  Dr. Harvey has written several relationship stories that can be found within the “Hello It’s Me!” app. The stories are written in simple language and have characters that people with IDD can identify with. Dr. Harvey states that, “People will see themselves and learn about relationships through these stories.”

New Love and All It’s Promise…

Meet Donna!

“Love is Dedication”

Donna Ziemba, Richcroft’s Accounting Analyst, has worked for Richcroft for over 32 years! Donna, who has a brother with a disability, began her career as a Program Manager at the Gallagher Center in Cockeysville, MD, many years ago. She started working in the Quality Assurance department at Richcroft on October 18th in 1992, and soon moved into Accounting. Donna remembers that when she started, there were no cell phones and staff had to use pagers to communicate. Due to her background as a Program Manager, Donna has always had a great relationship with the staff at Richcroft; she knows first hand how hard Program Managers and Direct Support Professionals work, and how valuable their work is. “Program Managers are the nucleus and the foundation of Richcroft - they are the glue that holds everything  together!”, states Donna. She adds that she believes, “DSPs are the unsung heroes” and she has tremendous respect for their “commitment and dedication” to the people we serve. Well, we all feel the same way about Donna!

Often, on weekends, Donna will take people who need a little extra help to the grocery store or help them run errands. One of her absolute favorite memories is the spring day that she and her husband took a young man named Allan (who is supported by Richcroft) to an Orioles baseball game. Initially, she wasn’t sure how her husband would feel about her inviting someone else along, but by the end of the game, Donna was the one feeling “a little left out” as Allan and her husband where busy bonding over their shared love of baseball, eating hot dogs and high fiving each other on every good play!

In her spare time Donna also coaches Varsity Field Hockey at Notre Dame Prep. and loves to spend time with her husband, 4 children and 7 grandchildren.

One of Donna’s favorite life mottos can be found on a bracelet that she wears, the bracelet says, “I get to.”  Donna says, “Many people say, oh I have to go to work, or I have to do this…I feel fortunate that I get to work with the staff and the people we support.”

Thank you Donna, for your love and dedication to Richcroft

and the people we serve!
